Dr Des Thompson
Desmond moved to New Zealand with his family in 2011, having previously lived in London all his life. He trained at Bart's Hospital, qualifying in 1983 and then trained in general practice. His work covered the whole breadth of general practice from new born babies to care of the elderly. Desmond believes that building relationships with patients and their families is the cornerstone of good general practice.
In addition, driven by his own collection of rugby injuries, Desmond completed a MSc. in Sports Medicine and was Team Doctor to Millwall F.C. for nine years, seeing the team through promotion, relegation and to the FA Cup Final in 2004.
He is keen to use his sports medicine skills for his patients at Papamoa Pines. Outside of work, Desmond, his wife Anne and three grown up children are enjoying the outdoor opportunities that NZ has to offer. In addition to honing his fly fishing skills, he has learnt how to kayak and managed to stand up on a surf board ( once).
