Repeat prescriptions

Repeat Prescription Changes

Please note that we are phasing out repeat prescriptions. From the end of September 2026, when your prescription is due, you will need to book a medication review appointment with your doctor before a new prescription can be issued.

If you are suitable for a repeat prescription prior to the end of September, please allow up to 3 working days for your prescription to be processed. A fee applies to all prescriptions, including those for children.

Urgent Scripts required within 3 working days will incur an additional urgent fee of $7, (a total charge of $32).  There may be extenuating circumstances and situations beyond your control, this is understandable, the fee in these situations will be at the discretion of the Prescriber.

From February 2026

From 1 February 2026, some patients with stable, long-term health conditions can receive prescriptions lasting up to 12 months, if it was clinically safe to do so.

Who can receive a longer prescription?
Your doctor will work with you to decide if a longer prescription is right for you. This is not suitable for everyone.

You will need to see your doctor for an in-person medication review to determine if this is right for you.

You are more likely to be eligible if your condition or medication have been stable for at least six months, or you don't need regular tests, check-ups or dose adjustments.

Dispensing of prescriptions
If you’re eligible for a longer prescription, the pharmacy will still dispense a three-month supply at a time. But you won't need to go back to your doctor for repeat prescriptions during the prescribed period. This means fewer requests for repeat prescriptions, less cost and more convenience for you. Repeats must be collected from the same pharmacy.

Can you receive a longer prescription for controlled medications?
Controlled medicines such as strong pain relievers or ADHD treatments are not eligible for longer prescriptions. These must be prescribed more frequently and are subject to stricter monitoring as they pose higher risk and require regular monitoring.

Talk to your doctor or prescriber to discuss your individual needs.

Need more information?

If you have questions about your prescription or think you may be eligible for a longer prescription, please contact the practice or speak to your GP or pharmacist.
